The Opportunity: The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is enthusiastically seeking a dynamic transportation executive with extraordinary, proven leadership skills to serve as the next Southwest Region Administrator based in Vancouver, WA. Southwest Washington is home to the lower end of the Columbia River Gorge and the beautiful Columbia River. The Columbia River separates the metropolis areas of Vancouver and Portland, OR., and curves through the southwestern part of the state to the Pacific Ocean, leading to some of the most popular beaches in the state. The region includes Pacific, Lewis, Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Skamania, Clark and Klickitat counties. Internally, this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of the region’s 440 employees, systematically fostering an inclusive work environment that promotes the agency’s mission and strategic direction, while encouraging innovative performance to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain the transportation system. Externally, the incumbent must be an effective ambassador and spokesperson for the department on transportation matters, establish strong relationships with stakeholders to build coalitions, create constituent support, and influence public opinion on issues of vital importance locally and to the State of Washington.
