Our Chapter conferences (Spring & Fall) are a great opportunity for networking, reconnecting and learning. They are also a good time to check-in on overall Chapter vitality by checking our statistics.
This year our Spring Conference was the highest attended for a Vancouver conference with 450 Registrants. Specific to this conference's theme of Diversity Expedition, participants were invited to sign a poster with a Diversity Pledge of which 230 members signed the pledge. To dig deeper into the theme, there was an educational track on Diversity. Our keynote speaker, Angela Ruggiero, was a four time Olympic medalist in hockey, who is currently the only woman to have played in the NFL and who spoke on the topic of diversity. Diversity Expedition T-Shirts were passed out post pledge signing and participants had their photo taken on the Thursday April 19th lunch of the conference.
APWA-WA will be initiating a National Challenge with the other APWA Chapters, to follow Washington's lead and have their chapter members sign a diversity pledge. If you'd like to start your own diversity pledge at your organization - you can download a poster here. Posters can be printed as large as 24" x 36". The Diversity Pledge states "Make a Plan to do Something Today, Plot a Course to a More Diverse Culture. Today, I Pledge to Celebrate and Cultivate Our Differences.
