CAEC Pro: Construction Cost Estimating

CAEC Pro: Construction Cost Estimating is the third APWA - CAEC Committee workshop series offered in 2017. Attendees can earn 5 credit hours towards a Certificate of Achievement.

In this class, we take a look at the construction cost estimate from the owner’s perspective and the contractor’s perspective.

If you are a Project Manager, Construction Manager, Estimator, Contract Administrator, or other project team member, you won’t want to miss this class! You will be given tools, tips, and tricks to help you understand and manage the project estimating process, including all elements of the estimate, why they are included, and how to understand what your estimate is actually buying.

Presentation will include:

  • When does the estimating process begin in the conceptualization and development of a project?
  • What types of estimates are there? 
  • What is the role and responsibility of the owner in the estimating process? 
  • How can the owner’s estimate be used as a tool for project management?
  • Who should hire an independent cost estimator?
  • How do the contractors perceive your Engineer’s estimate when they see it?
  • How are the bidders spending their time during the “bid window”?
  • How do the bonding and insurance requirements affect their bid?

Class runs 9:00am - 3:00pm with short breaks about every hour and a one hour lunch break around noon.  Attendees are on their own for lunch.
